Project Cargo - Dragline Project

65 cubic yard bucket |
We walked this 3,600 ton Dragline onto a barge after
excavating a lagoon facing the Green River, walked it onto the barge and secured
it, and moved it as
one piece down the Green River to Owensboro, Kentucky, down
the Ohio River to Cairo, Illinois, down the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico,
and on
to Freeport, Grand Bahama Island via the Florida Straits.
Model 1450 Dragline was shipped s/u. |
Please note the Manotowoc 4100 parked beside the Model 1450 Dragline. |
The massive size of the Dragline is apparent when viewed in scale next to the people. |
The Dragline walks on shoes measuring 55 feet in length, 10 feet in width and
takes 8-foot steps. |
We had to excavate our own lagoon and channel, bring an ocean barge from New Orleans,
Louisiana to Kentucky, sink the barge to the bottom of the lagoon, refill the lagoon
partially, and walk the Dragline onto the barge after crossing the refilled land,
secure the unit to the barge and then transport it to G.B.I. via the route described
above. |
After walking the Dragline onto the barge, we pumped the water out of the barge
in order to refloat it. |
In order to move the Dragline down the rivers and underneath the numerous bridges,
we removed the support towers for the 228-foot boom and set
them on a second barge. |
We sailed across the Gulf of Mexico through the Florida Straits to Freeport, Grand
Bahama Island. |
The dragline is working today in Freeport as shown. |
